With the two groups combined for the summer sessions, the class completed a series on spiritual warfare. Specific studies included consideration of the enemies of the Christian - sin, the flesh, and the Devil. The class also considered the power, wiles, and tactics of these enemies, looking intently at what God has to say about the dangers and snares which would overcome us. The series closed with lessons focused on the power of the Holy Spirit, and His role in empowering us to overcome our enemies and avoid the traps set to entangle us.
As the new AWANA year began in September, Trek began a study of Old Testament figures, beginning with Adam & Eve, and continuing right on through the kings and prophets of Israel. Journey began a series entitled "Demolishing Strongholds," published by Answers in Genesis. The studies provided students the opportunity to consider and identify the foundation of secular world-views, and encouraged them to stand firm on the authority of Scripture and the Biblical worldview.
Activities included a Christmas party, pizza party, pool party, and games night. The students also had the opportunity to study God's Word with their peers from area churches during jointly sponsored Youth Conferences.
Girls Bible Study
We meet Sunday evenings, beginning after the evening service, at the church building in the library and end around 8:30 pm. Led by Sarah Comfort, Julia Lasch, and Katie Brown, our study time commences with an opening prayer, from which we go into worship time for 15-20 minutes, and then the study takes most of the remainder of the time, ending in prayer. We also have snacks every once in a while, but I'm sure many of you know that already.
About once a month we take a break from the book we're studying to do a Praise and Prayer night. Although the structure varies, this normally consists of reading and talking about several psalms, singing quite a few songs and splitting up for prayer time at the end.
